El-Roi

Genesis 16:13

THE GOD WE NEED

Day 7: El Roi

The Gardener

"She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: 'You are the God who sees me,' for she said, 'I have now seen the One who sees me.'" (Genesis 16:13, NIV)

🌾

There is a need that surfaces in seasons of being overlooked. The contribution no one noticed. The pain no one asked about. The years spent invisible to people who should have seen you first. And quietly, a question rises. Does anyone actually see what I am carrying?

🌱

Hagar knew that ache better than most, a servant, alone in the wilderness, cast out and forgotten by everyone who should have cared for her. And there, in the place where she expected no one, God met her. She gave Him a name no one had used before. El Roi, the God Who Sees.

Roi comes from the Hebrew word for seeing, but it carries more than simple observation. It means to look upon with attention, with knowledge, with care. Not a distant glance, but the gaze of Someone who notices what others walk past.

🌻

This is how He meets the need to be known. He does not require you to explain yourself before He understands. He already sees, fully, the parts of your story no one else stayed long enough to notice.

Hagar was alone in the wilderness with nothing left. But she was not, in fact, unseen. And neither are you.

What is unseen to everyone else is never unseen to Him.

🌿 Prayer

El Roi, God who sees me, thank You that nothing about my life is hidden from You. See me fully today, and let that be enough. Amen.
