THE GOD WE NEED: El Elyon

Genesis 14:18+19

THE GOD WE NEED

Day 4: El Elyon

The Gardener

"Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram." (Genesis 14:18-19, NIV)

🌾

There is a need that rises when smaller powers press in from every side. A difficult employer. A hostile system. A diagnosis that seems to hold the final word. And beneath it all, the soul asks, is there anyone above all of this?

🌱

Abram met that question after a battle, exhausted, having just rescued his family from kings who seemed unstoppable. Melchizedek greeted him with a name that reframed everything. El Elyon, God Most High.

Elyon comes from a root meaning to go up or ascend. It places God not merely above other gods or powers, but above every throne, every army, every circumstance that claims the highest seat. Every earthly authority answers to Him. None stand over Him.

🌻

This is how He meets the need for a ceiling over your chaos. When forces beyond your control seem to hold the final say, El Elyon reminds you they do not. He becomes the authority above the authority that frightens you.

Kings rise and kings fall. Systems shift. Diagnoses are not the last word.

There is One who sits above them all, and He is not moved by what moves you.

Every throne bows to a higher throne.

🌿

Prayer

El Elyon, God Most High, I lift my eyes above what presses in on me today. Thank You that nothing stands over You. Reign above my circumstances. Amen.
